Robert Randolph and Joe Bonamassa at Crossroads

The official Crossroads DVD was released recently. However, it only included one song with Joe, where he plays with Robert Randolph doing “Goin Down”. Joe also did one of his own songs “Blues Deluxe” with Robert Randolph. This particular song was not included on the DVD, but it’s still a gem. You can check it out on YouTube. I just found this one a few days back. Enjoy!

Set List On Current Tour

Just in case you were wondering what the current set list is…

Cradle Rock
So Many Roads
When The Fire Hits The Sea
So It’s Like That
If Heartaches Where Nickels
Slow Train
Steal Your Heart Away
Sloe Gin
Ballad Of John Henry
Happier Times
Never Make Your Move Too Soon
Great Flood
Young Mans Blues
Woke Up Dreaming
Mountain Time
******ENCORE******
Bird On A Wire
Just Got Paid

Some songs that stand out – Cradle Rock, Never Make Your Move Too Soon, Steal Your Heart Away, and Slow Train. I personally have never seen Cradle Rock or Never Make Your Move Too Soon. Cradle Rock hasn’t been performed since around 2002 – 2003, if I remember correctly. Never Make Your Move Too Soon has never been performed live before. Another song that people don’t get to hear often is Steal Your Heart Away. That song is from Joe’s latest album, Black Rock. You might also noticed Slow Train, which is a yet to be released track. It will probably be on Joe’s next studio album that was recorded over the summer at Black Rock Studios in Greece.

aus_flagSeveral dates for the 2011 tour have been posted so far on Joe’s official site and Australia is on that list. It was few months ago that Joe visited Australia for the first time. It’s good to see him returning there – it seems that Joe draws fans wherever he goes. The confirmed dates for Australia are as follows:

Awesome Review From New Tour

Here is an awesome review from Joe’s show last night in Ipswich. This was Joe’s first time playing in the town and probably won’t be the last. Full review is posted below.

Joe Bonamassa is a sharp-suited master guitarist from New York who has already clocked up more than 20 years worth of performing and nine solo albums in his 33 years.

If you haven’t heard of him, the feeling was mutual until this week.

“Until 24 hours ago, I thought Ipswich was some kind of beer or ale,” he told us.

“We’re going to Ipswich? Who’s going to know me there?”

Enough fans to ensure a sell-out, though, and they got what they paid for – a feast of Bonamassa’s trademark blues with classic rock riffing.

Opening up with a version of Rory Gallagher’s Cradle Rock, the set featured originals such as The Ballad of John Henry (during which he nearly knocked himself out with a flailing guitar) and The Great Flood with some choice covers, including an inspired reworking of Leonard Cohen’s Bird On A Wire.

His is a no messin’ show – songs come thick and fast on top of each other with a minimum of audience chat in between; he’s too busy changing guitar for the umpteenth time.

Bonamassa is very much the star: he takes lead vocals on every number and, without a second guitarist to back him up, there’s little doubt of his theatre-filling talent.

His elaborate solos are as much a part of the show as his songs, and they are played with straight-faced virtuosity and stunning ease. Enough to make you forgive him for wearing white trainers with that suit.

This was a gig for blues-rock purists – all two hours of it – although Bonamassa does not lack in crowd-pleasing stagecraft or commercial appeal.

Ipswich might know its blues, but on this occasion it was taught a lesson. Or rather, given a masterclass.

Carmine Rojas and Stevie Ray Vaughan

Many of you know Carmine Rojas as Joe Bonamassa’s bass player. Did you know he played with David Bowie? There has been a lot of discussion lately on the forum over at Joe Bonamassa’s site. From the way it sounds, Stevie Ray Vaughan was going to tour with David Bowie back in the 80’s. The tour fell through as Stevie Ray Vaughan couldn’t bring his whole band on the tour with him. His full band at that time was known as Double Trouble. Carmine Rojas and Stevie met in the studio while recording David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance” album. Check out the thread and discussion here. You’ll find a lot of interesting facts that you never knew.
