Rick started his professional career with Andy Gibb and has been touring Australia and the world ever since. Among the many gigs in a career that spans 3 plus decades you can include international artists Jeff ‘Skunk’ Baxter, (Steely Dan & Doobie Bros.) and Glenn Shorrock, (Little River Band) as well as iconic Australian acts including Dragon, Jon Stevens, Stevie Wright, Marc Hunter, Brian Cadd, Doug Parkinson and Jimmy Little. Over the years there have also been countless solo shows both in Australia and the USA. Although Rick has played on scores of recordings he has a very special place in his heart for his professional and personal relationship with the late John Denver which culminated in the piano and orchestra recording of the international hit single ‘For You’.
From 1985-91 Rick was the managing partner in Reel Time, a professional recording studio in Sydney which hosted many of Australia’s premier musical artists and it was there that he got a chance to sharpen both his technical and artistic/production skills. From 1991 he followed the trend to a smaller more personal facility where he continues to record and produce music both for himself and others for all kinds of projects: independent and record company artists, as well as television and film which has also consistently featured in his capacity as a composer. In the late 1980′s he c0-wrote the theme song for the 26 part TV serial ‘Willing & Abel’ and currently he has the theme music for the long running sports series ‘Escaping With ET’ on air. The eco documentary special ‘Australian Adventure’ is set for international release in 2010 and he has incidental as well as recording credits. The country single ‘Where Do Old Cowboys Go’ which he also co-wrote spent 7 weeks at #1 on the Australian charts and was nominated for a Golden Guitar (kinda like the Grammy’s for Aussie country music.)
He first recorded with Joe B in 2005 for the ‘You And Me’ sessions which was also marked a tipping point for Joe who invited him in January 2007 to “come out for a week” after the initial ‘Sloe Gin’ sessions. Since April 2007 Joe B has kept him so busy with live gigs there has not been room for much else in that category, and at the close of 2009 the collaboration has yielded 4 studio CD’s in addition to ‘Live From Nowhere In Particular’ and the DVD ‘Live from Royal Albert Hall.’

I want to thank Rick for his playing – we’ve been to several concerts with him and Joe all over Europe. Every time we managed to squeeze through to the dividing rail and stand in front of Rick on the left (from his perspective of course on the right!) of the stage, so we could not only hear him but also see him from a few meters.
Now my wife has a question for Rick: Where did your little Buddha go – it wasn’t sitting on your Hammond any more the last time we went to a concert.
I hope it wasn’t destroyed or lost somehow …
wolfi
Hey Rick, thanks for the great gig in Berlin last night and the awesome photo! You rock!!!!!
Take care !
Wolfi thanks for you encouraging words …. I bought this Buddha in the Manchester Museum shop and it was a replica of one of their exhibits. He was beautiful and with me for a few years before the strain of the road overtook him. Unfortunately my assistants don’t think as much about the God force as they could and he was dropped and broken. I am seeking a brass one which ought to put a stop to this happening again. Cheers Rick
