Planet Rock recently released the results of the voting for the best acts, albums, films, and events of the year. Joe and Black Country Communion took a majority of them.
BAND OF THE YEAR:
WINNER: BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION
The first rule of supergroups is that they must be a crushing disappointment. Black Country Communion obviously didn’t get the memo and despite playing just two unbelievable concerts this year they have beaten several very big bands to win this category by some margin. An excellent album, several musicians at the top of their game and a bunch of songs that put the classic in classic rock. More please. Much, much more.
LIVE ACT OF THE YEAR
WINNER: JOE BONAMASSA
He’s the hardest working guitarist out there. Want proof? He’s released a new solo album this year, recorded and released a new album with Black Country Communion, recorded another solo album and appeared on his girlfriend’s album. Oh, and he’s played more than 200 gigs in 2010. It’s a staggering feat made even more amazing due to the fact that he’s one of the most loved blues guitarists on the planet with a relentless stream of praise from everyone that’s been to see him at a gig in the past 5 years. Find someone that HASN’T enjoyed a Joe Bonamassa live show and we’ll show you a person that doesn’t know music.
GUITAR HERO OF 2010
WINNER: JOE BONAMASSA
For the second year running Joe beats a whole host of guitarists that have been at the top of their game for decades. Joe’s star is rising fast and it’s only a matter of time before the world at large realises what they’re missing. His reputation now precedes him and his name is now mentioned in the same sentence as the guitar legends he seems to keep beating in these polls. We can’t wait to see what he does next.
BEST NEW BAND
WINNER: BLACK COUNTRY COMMUNION
BCC are an unparalleled success in supergroup terms. Anticipation was high before the band even had a name. The idea of Glenn Hughes returning to rock and recruiting Joe Bonamassa on guitar with the rhythms of Bonham driving the whole thing along was undeniably exciting, and when they delivered on their promise it was almost too good to be true. They received more than half of the votes in this category.
